1. Who We Are

Xerostate ("we", "us", "our") is an AI-powered study companion platform for Indian students, operated by Anmol Thapa, based in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. You can reach us at support@xerostate.in.

2. What Data We Collect

Data you provide directly:

• Full name — to personalise your dashboard and AI responses
• Email address — for account creation and OTP login
• Mobile number — for optional updates and reminders (optional)
• Password — stored encrypted via Supabase, we never see it in plain text

Data collected automatically:

• Chat messages you send to the AI — to provide responses and improve the service
• Study time and task activity — to show your progress dashboard
• Device type and browser — for technical support and optimisation
• Push notification token (Android app only) — a device token from Firebase Cloud Messaging, collected only if you enable notifications, so we can send study reminders and app updates. It is linked to your account and never used for advertising. You can turn notifications off anytime in Settings or your device settings.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To provide and personalise the Xerostate AI study service
• To send OTP emails for login and account verification
• To send optional updates and reminders (only if you opt in)
• To process payments via Razorpay
• To improve AI responses and fix bugs
• To send product updates and important account notifications

We do not sell your data to third parties. Ever.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on Supabase (Singapore servers), protected by industry-standard encryption. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Payment information is handled entirely by Razorpay — we never store your card or UPI details.

5. Third-Party Services

• Supabase — database and authentication (Singapore)
• Razorpay — payment processing (India)
• Resend — transactional emails
• OpenAI — AI chat responses (your messages are processed by OpenAI)
• Vercel — website hosting
• Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — delivering push notifications to the Android app (only if you enable notifications)
• Google AdSense — advertising; may use cookies to serve and measure ads

Each of these services has their own privacy policy and handles data per their terms.

6. Advertising & Cookies

Xerostate may display ads through Google AdSense or similar advertising services to help keep the free version available for students. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on a user's previous visits to Xerostate or other websites.

You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google's ad settings, and you can manage or disable cookies in your browser. For full details on the cookies we and our advertising partners use, see our Cookie Policy.

We do not sell your personal information to advertisers. Ads simply help us support the free version of Xerostate and keep study tools accessible for students.

7. Your Rights

• Request a copy of your personal data
• Request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Opt out of WhatsApp reminders at any time
• Update your name and phone number from your profile

8. Children's Privacy

Xerostate is designed for students aged 13 and above. If you are under 13, please do not use this service without parental consent. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. We will notify you via email for significant changes. Continued use of Xerostate after changes means you accept the updated policy.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Xerostate at www.xerostate.in, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

2. The Service

Xerostate provides an AI-powered study companion for Indian students. Our service includes:

• AI chat for academic questions and concept explanations
• Automated notes generation and revision planning
• Practice quizzes and mock tests
• Exam Pulse and photo question upload (free for everyone)
• Progress tracking and task management dashboard

Features may change over time. We will notify users of significant changes via email.

3. Account Responsibilities

• You must provide accurate information during signup
• You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure
• You must not share your account with others
• You must be at least 13 years old to use Xerostate
• One person may only create one account

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Xerostate to:

• Cheat in exams or submit AI-generated work as entirely your own without disclosure
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or scrape the service
• Harass, abuse, or threaten other users or our team
• Use the service for any illegal purpose under Indian law
• Attempt to bypass subscription restrictions

5. Subscription and Payments

• Free plan features are available indefinitely at no cost
• Paid plans (Fresher, Pro, God Mode) are billed monthly
• Exam Crunch (₹169) is a one-time payment for 30 days access and reverts to Free afterwards
• All payments are processed securely via Razorpay
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the billing date
• You can cancel your subscription anytime from your profile

6. AI Disclaimer

Xerostate uses artificial intelligence to provide study assistance. While we strive for accuracy, AI responses may occasionally be incorrect or incomplete. Always verify important information with your teachers, textbooks, or official sources. Xerostate is a study aid — not a replacement for qualified teachers or official educational institutions.

7. Intellectual Property

All content, design, and technology on Xerostate is owned by Xerostate. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the service without written permission. Your personal data and chat history belongs to you.

8. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Upon termination, your data will be deleted within 30 days.

9. Limitation of Liability

Xerostate is provided "as is". We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the last 3 months.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ludhiana, Punjab, India.

1. When You Are Eligible for a Refund

We issue refunds in the following situations:

• Technical glitch — a bug or error on our platform prevented you from accessing the service you paid for, and we were unable to fix it within 48 hours of you reporting it
• Service not delivered — a feature we explicitly promised and advertised for your plan was not available or not functional during your subscription period
• Duplicate payment — you were charged more than once for the same plan due to a payment processing error
• Unauthorised transaction — a payment was made on your account without your knowledge or consent

2. When You Are Not Eligible for a Refund

• You changed your mind after purchasing
• You did not use the service during the subscription period
• You forgot to cancel before the renewal date
• You found a cheaper alternative elsewhere
• You did not like the AI responses (subjective preference)
• Your exam results did not improve as hoped
• You violated our Terms of Service and your account was terminated

3. How to Request a Refund

If you believe you qualify for a refund:

• Email us at support@xerostate.in within 7 days of the issue occurring
• Include your registered email address and a clear description of the problem
• Attach a screenshot or screen recording of the issue if possible

We will review your request within 3 business days and respond with our decision.

4. Refund Processing

Approved refunds will be processed back to the original payment method (UPI, debit card, credit card) within 5-7 business days via Razorpay. Processing time may vary depending on your bank.

5. Exam Crunch (One-Time Plan)

The Exam Crunch plan is a one-time 30-day access purchase. The same refund eligibility rules apply — refunds are only issued if a technical glitch or promised feature failure prevented you from using the service. Change of mind refunds are not applicable.

6. Cancellation vs Refund

Cancelling your subscription stops future billing but does not automatically trigger a refund for the current billing period. You will continue to have access to your paid plan until the end of the period you already paid for. If you have a valid refund claim, submit it separately as described above.

1. How to Request Deletion

To request deletion of your account and associated data, email us from the email address registered on your Xerostate account:

• Subject: Account deletion request
• Include: the username and/or email address you use on Xerostate, so we can locate and verify your account

We verify the request by confirming it comes from your registered email address. This protects your account from someone else requesting deletion on your behalf.

2. What Data May Be Deleted

Once your request is verified, we delete the personal data linked to your account, which may include:

• Account profile — your name, email, username, avatar and profile settings
• Study progress — study time, streaks, sessions and dashboard activity
• Tasks — your to-dos and study plans
• Weak topics — the topics you were tracking and revising
• Study room data linked to your account — your rooms, memberships and participation records
• Analytics linked to your account — usage and engagement records tied to you, where applicable

3. Data We May Retain

Some records may be retained for a limited time after deletion where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary for security or payment purposes:

• Payment & billing records — transaction records processed via Razorpay may be retained to meet tax, accounting and legal obligations (typically up to 8 years as required under applicable Indian law).
• Legal & security records — limited data may be kept to resolve disputes, prevent fraud or abuse, and enforce our Terms — usually no longer than 90 days, unless a longer period is legally required.
• Anonymised / aggregated data — data that no longer identifies you may be retained for analytics and improving the service.

Retained data is limited to what is strictly necessary and is deleted once it is no longer needed for these purposes.

4. Processing Time

We aim to acknowledge your request within 3 business days and complete deletion within 30 days of verification. Backups containing your data are cycled out on a rolling basis shortly after.

1. AI can be wrong

Our AI generates answers, notes and quizzes automatically. It may occasionally be inaccurate, outdated, or incomplete. Always double-check important facts, formulas, dates, and exam-specific information against your textbooks, teachers, and official sources.

2. Not a substitute

Xerostate does not replace your school, teachers, coaching, or official exam boards (CBSE, NTA, etc.). Treat it as one helpful tool among many.

3. Your responsibility

Final decisions about your studies and exams are yours. We're not liable for outcomes based solely on AI-generated content. When in doubt, verify with an official source.

1. How to request deletion

Email support@xerostate.in from the email address on your account with the subject line "Delete My Data". To protect you, we may ask a quick question to confirm it's really you.

2. What gets deleted

• Your account and profile details
• Your saved chats, quizzes, weak topics, and study data

Some records we're legally required to keep (e.g. payment invoices) may be retained for the period the law requires, then removed.

3. Timeline

We aim to complete verified deletion requests within 7 working days and will confirm by email once done.

• No bullying, harassment, hate speech, or spam
• No cheating in live exams or sharing leaked papers

Breaking these guidelines may lead to removal from the community or account action. Report issues to support@xerostate.in.

2. Practice & track

Say "quiz me on [topic]" to get instant MCQs. Wrong answers can be added to Weak Topics so you know exactly what to revise.

3. Stay consistent

Set a daily study goal, use the Pomodoro timer to focus, and build a streak. Add your exam date to keep the countdown front and centre.
